A patient might be treated at their GP surgery or the local hospital.  Information is captured as a Detailed Care Record at the point at which treatment is provided.  This Detailed Care Record is accessible within a limited geographical area.  As well as this, a Summary Care Record of important details will be held on a national database called the Spine. These details will be both demographic (such as name, address and date of birth) and clinical (such as allergies, medication and some clinical correspondence).    The Summary Care Record is available to a wide variety of different Health Providers i.e. Acute Hospitals (ED, Pharmacy), urgent Care Centres & Minor Injuries Units, Mental Health, Community Service Teams etc.     Clinical User role:  The Clinical User role within the Summary Care Record allows users to view current and historical demographic information e.g.      name, address, date of birth, NHS number, GP etc. and also clinical information on the patient’s summary care record including:   Allergies, intolerance, prescriptions, bad reactions to medicines / medications. Current (last 12 months) and all repeat medications with last issue date. Discontinued (in the last 6 months) repeat medications.  Emergency Access option if the patient has not given consent but it’s in their best interest i.e. unconscious. Objectives:  By successfully completing this e-Learning module, you will be able to show and demonstrate:  A good understanding of the general aspects of the Clinical User role within the Summary Care Record (SCR) system. How to log in and out, viewing patient demographic and also clinical information correctly, and understanding the various mentioned processes.
